    Olympic Wrestler Tossed From Gold Medal Round After Weighing 100 Grams Above Maximum Limit

    Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from her gold medal bout at the the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics after weighing in about 100 grams higher than the maximum limit for her weight class.

    Phogat's results on the scale prevented her from competing in the 50-kilogram Olympic final against Sarah Hildebrandt of Team USA.

    Phogat's weight was .22 pounds or 3.5 ounces higher than the maximum limit, roughly equivalent to the weight of a bar of soap.

    The 50-kilogram final proceed without the prospective Indian competitor, who went on to defeat replacement challenger Yuneylys Guzman of Team Cuba.

    Hildebrandt mouthed words of celebration to the crowd in disbelief as she secured the gold.

    "I just won the Olympics!" she reportedly mouthed .

    "It just speaks volumes to these women, our coaches and the people around us," Hildebrandt continued. "It's super cool, and that just feeds everything. She feeds it to me, and I'm 10 years older than her," she said of fellow competitor and gold medal winner Amit Elor of Team USA.

    "The environment is really growing, and the belief is building and building."
