'No Fights!' Cowboys vs. Rams Joint Practice

Unlike their division rival, the Dallas Cowboys are looking to avoid unnecessary confrontation in their first joint practice of the offseason. They will link with the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday, who happen to be the Cowboys' first preseason opponent.

Ahead of that session, Rams head coach Sean McVay has laid out a zero tolerance policy and Cowboys' coach Mike McCarthy has supported him on that front.

“It’s a waste of time,” McCarthy told reporters this week . “I don’t want guys fighting. That’s not toughness, it’s lack of discipline. We want the work to get to that emotional edge to push each other, but you’ve got to handle those spots."

Though the teams have had their history of confrontations, the urgency of these comments stems from the Giants and Lions each receiving a $200,000 fine for the scuffle that broke out at their joint practices on Monday and Tuesday.

Giants receiver Malik Nabers butted heads with Lions safety Kerby Joseph, making for one of the unfortunate viral moments of the program.

"It was a heated practice," Nabers told Jordan Raanan of ESPN . "Words are being said and stuff like that is going to happen."

McVay and McCarthy have made it clear they want to avoid such issues on their end.

But this has not been the only summer where tensions have boiled over in joint practices. The NFL has dealt with these issues before and released a memo last month with a reminder that "fighting and unprofessional conduct at joint practices would not be tolerated."

Hopefully McCarthy and the Cowboys will stay within those guidelines and avoid any immature behavior before they lace up their cleats for the first action of the season.
