Buccaneers' Todd Bowles Reveals Linebacker Injury Updates

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense is currently down two outside linebackers now that Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is dealing with a neck injury. The Bucs already lost other outside linebacker YaYa Diaby earlier in the month to an ankle injury. A common theme of Bucs training camp has been minuscule injuries on the defense.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles talked after Wednesdays practice and provided an update:

"He's got a little neck [injury] he's dealing with, so we're being careful with him." said Bowles.

Tryon-Shoyinka is an expected starter, and while it's common to see a number of players on the Injury Report this time of year, it is never a good thing.

The first-round pick for the Buccaneers back in 2021 is poised for another breakout year after recording five sacks in 2023. In his fourth year in the NFL, expectations will be a little higher for Tryon-Shoyinka because the Bucs need the help on the outside.

The Bucs secondary has also taken a beating during training camp. Safety Jordan Whitehead has been out of practice for a week dealing with a sore quad. Todd Bowles could not provide an update on his progress after Whitehead didn't practice again on Wednesday.

Rookie safety Tykee Smith has also been dealing with an ankle injury this camp, but has quickly returned back to the field. Bowles indicated that the rookie out of Georgia has not missed a step in his progress.
