History being made is what the Olympics is for. For the United States, their younger generation of athletes is putting themselves in the record books.

This will be the case for the U.S.'s Quincy Wilson. First reported by Citius' Chris Chavez, Wilson will make his Olympic debut in the semifinal round of the 4x400m relay on Friday.

At the age of 16, he will make Team USA history as the youngest American to participate in an Olympic track and field event.

Wilson clocked a time of 44.94 to finish sixth at the U.S. trials in the 400 meters in June, earning a spot in the U.S. relay team. The previous day, he set a new under-18 boys' world record in the race with a time of 44.59 during the semifinals, surpassing Darrell Robinson's longstanding high school national record of 44.69 set in 1982.

Before coming to Paris, Wilson further improved his 400-meter time at the Holloway Pro Classic in Gainesville, setting a new record of 44.20 on July 19.

Wilson is poised to compete on the world's largest stage. The U.S. relay teams have secured 18 golds and a total 21 medals in the event, a record unmatched by any other country, with no more than two golds.

He will reportedly run the first leg, which will reduce the complexity of baton handoffs for him, given his relatively young age.
