Vikings QBs Darnold and McCarthy, most starters to play preseason game vs. Raiders

The Minnesota Vikings plan to play the majority of their starters in their first preseason game this weekend against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Head coach Kevin O’Connell announced the decision on Thursday, saying Sam Darnold will start at quarterback before first-round pick J.J. McCarthy takes over.

Beyond the quarterbacks, O’Connell didn’t say specifically who will all play or for how long. He noted that some guys, including those dealing with injuries, will be held out, but most other starters will see at least some action.

Justin Jefferson and Harrison Smith are among those who are healthy but won’t play, per O’Connell.

Saturday’s preseason game at U.S. Bank Stadium is set to kick off at 3 p.m.
