The Cincinnati Bengals over the years of the Joe Burrow era have seen inconsistent offensive line play, but at times the unit has taken its game to the next level.

It's no secret to anyone that the offense almost always goes as the offensive line goes, and the Bengals are not unique in that way. If the offensive line is playing well, it unlocks everything else for the offense both in the passing and the running game.

Offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher , who has been with the team through all the ups and downs, was asked on Wednesday about the interior of the line's performance last season specifically in Cordell Volson , Alex Cappa , and Ted Karras . He did not understate what the unit means to the team.

"They played well at times, there were games where we could have been better there across the line, not just on the interior," Pitcher said . "We talk a lot about putting our skill players in position to make plays for us, let's make sure we are doing everything in our power to put the guys up front in position to do the things they do well. They're coming together, they've played together for so long now, they're the heart and soul of our team, of our unit. Our skill players and our quarterback get a lot of credit as they should, but it's the energy and intensity that our line brings every day that drives us. We love those guys and we're happy with what they've shown."

If the offensive line can take things to the next level this season, it will go a long way towards helping the team win ball games.
