Vikings Ring of Honor inductee Bobby Bryant credits teammates for interceptions

Next month, the Minnesota Vikings will formally induct the first cornerback into the team’s Ring of Honor.

The organization announced Bobby Bryant as the 28th member of the Ring of Honor last month , surprising him with the news thanks to the help of a few of his former teammates.

Thursday, Bryant attended Vikings training camp and talked a little about the honor.

Over his 14 seasons in Minnesota, Bryant racked up 51 regular-season interceptions, behind only Hall of Famer Paul Krause in franchise history. However, he repeatedly credited his teammates for that production on Thursday, saying it was the pressure from Alan Page, Gary Larsen, Jim Marshall, Carl Eller, Doug Sutherland and others that got him so many interceptions.

When asked if he was surprised by the honor, Bryant joked, “I was amazed that it took them so long.” He then said he was “blown away,” “never expected it,” and “didn’t think I deserved it.”

Bryant said he didn't have any particular favorite play but does clearly remember returning a blocked field goal for a touchdown in the 1976 NFC Championship Game. When noted that many younger fans never got to see him play, he encouraged them to look him up on the internet, so we'll save you that step: click here for some Bryant highlights .

The 80-year-old also reflected on playing for legendary Vikings coach Bud Grant.

“Bud was a great coach and died way too young,” Bryant said, calling him a disciplinarian but one of the best to do it.

The Vikings plan to formally induct him into the Ring of Honor during halftime of the team’s Week 3 game against the Houston Texans .
