Emmanuel Forbes Failure: Commanders Calling Stephon Gilmore?

All offseason we’ve heard how Washington Commanders cornerback Emmanuel Forbes has put on weight to play bigger and stronger. One joint practice against the New York Jets and covering Garrett Wilson and we are back to Forbes just not being very good.

If what we saw in joint practices is any indication of what we might see all season, it’s time for Adam Peters to pick up the phone and call All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Gilmore played last season with the Dallas Cowboys in coach Dan Quinn’s system, so he knows the defense. He played in all 18 games with the Cowboys last year including the playoffs tallying 68 total tackles and an interception.

Gilmore’s resume includes five Pro Bowl appearance, two-time All Pro and was the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year. Even at 33, Gilmore is still a solid and dependable corner. His presence would not only fill a major void in the defense, but his mentorship might be able to help Forbes transform into a solid corner himself.

With the preseason kicking off against the Jets on Saturday, don’t be surprised if they go to Garrett early if he’s lined up on Forbes.

The Commanders and Jets play an early game on Saturday, kicking off at noon at Metlife Stadium.
