The Carolina Panthers have decided to sit most of their presumed starters for the first preseason game Thursday against the New England Patriots. Carolina has decided to error on the side of caution, with a joint practice next week versus the New York Jets, as well as two more games before the season starts.

On offense, no Bryce Young, no offensive line starters, with Jonathan Mingo seemingly the only player atop the depth chart playing tonight. On the defensive side, looks like cornerback Dane Jackson and outside linebacker DJ Johnson will be the only potential starters playing. At the moment most starting positions seem to be set. So it will be a great opportunity for young guys to get plenty of playing time, as well as the veterans trying to show the coaching staff what they can do.

Dave Canales stated Monday that rookie Xavier Legette would not play after leaving practice with a lower leg injury on Sunday. Test results came back negative, so Carolina will take it easy with their first-round pick. It will be the first time to see Dave Canales and the new look Panthers.
