There's one way that Daniel Jones can outright win the New York Giants ' starting quarterback job - an injury to backup Drew Lock.

Lock left Thursday night's preseason game against the Detroit Lions with a hip injury and isn't expected to return. Lock started the game while Jones, as scheduled, sat.

He went down to a knee late in the first quarter, seemingly grabbing his left side. It wasn't clear on which play Lock was injured, He then went to the sideline and was examined by trainers.

Starting behind the Giants’ backup offensive line, Lock faced consistent pressure and was ineffective in his four drives. He completed only four of 10 passes for 17 yards and was intercepted once and sacked once.

When he left the game the Giants trailed, 3-0.

Third-stringer Tommy DeVito — the Giants’ only other quarterback — replaced Lock.

The Giants’ starting offensive line Thursday, from left to right, was Josh Ezeudu, Jake Kubas, Austin Schlottmann, Aaron Stinnie, and Josh Miles.
