The NBA offseason is approaching mid-August, which means the new regular-season schedule is almost ready to be released. On Sunday, our friend and NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Dallas Mavericks and Minnesota Timberwolves could be slated for a Christmas Day game this coming season. On Thursday, NBA insider Shams Charania reinforced that report by confirming the T-Wolves as the Mavs' opponent on Christmas.

"NBA Christmas Day games for the 2024-25 season, per sources: Spurs at Knicks, Timberwolves at Mavericks, 76ers at Celtics, Lakers at Warriors, Nuggets at Suns," Charania posted on X.

Led by Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and now, Klay Thompson as well, the Mavericks, who are coming off an NBA Finals run, are sure to have an abundance of nationally televised games.

Christmas Day is the NBA's biggest regular-season headliner, but Opening Night is a big deal too, so we'll see if making the NBA Finals is enough for the schedule-makers to have the Mavs playing at home to open the 2024-25 season. Last season, the Mavs opened on the road against the San Antonio Spurs.

Although the Timberwolves boasted the league's best defense last season, Doncic and Irving's Mavs defeated Minnesota in five games in the Western Conference Finals to advance to the NBA Finals. With Anthony Edwards getting better each year, and Doncic continuing his heated rivalry with Rudy Gobert, having this matchup as a Christmas Day game was a no-brainer for the NBA.

Stay tuned to Dallas Basketball in the coming days for more updates as NBA schedule leaks trickle in.
