The night didn't start on a high note for the Carolina Panthers, who lost their first preseason game of the year to the New England Patriots, 17-3.

Things didn't get much better after that either, with their plane running off the taxiway upon landing at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

WBTV News has confirmed that Panthers players and coaches were onboard a Delta flight that drove off of the taxiway after a normal landing in Charlotte early on Friday morning, at about 2:40 a.m. ET. No injuries were reported.

It wasn't until about an hour later that passengers were able to exit the plane and be bussed to the terminal.

The Delta plane reportedly had landing gear on the right side get stuck in the mud after driving off of the taxiway. There were 188 passengers onboard.

It was a rough ending to a likely frustrating night for the Panthers. Their first preseason game did not go as they'd hoped, being held scoreless until the final quarter of the game.

Second-year quarterback Bryce Young did not play in the game, but rookie Jack Plummer got a lot of reps, completing 11 of 21 passes for 86 yards. Meanwhile, Patriots QBs Drake Maye and Joe Milton got some good work, with the latter stealing the show.

Milton was the star of the night with 54 yards and 1 TD through the air on 4-of-6 passing.
