The New York Giants secured a 14-3 victory over the Detroit Lions in their preseason opener on Thursday night, but the win was overshadowed by injuries to key players, including quarterback Drew Lock . Lock, who was making his debut for the Giants, left the game in the second quarter after taking a hit from Lions defensive lineman Nate Lynn.

Before his exit, Lock had completed just four of his 10 pass attempts for 17 yards and an interception. The Giants initially listed him as questionable to return due to a hip injury, but Lock never reentered the game. Tommy DeVito stepped in to finish the game under center.

Despite the early exit, Giants general manager Joe Schoen provided reassurance during a live interview, stating that Lock was "fine" and could have returned if necessary. Head coach Brian Daboll echoed Schoen’s sentiments, confirming that the injury was not expected to sideline Lock for an extended period.

“He’s sore,” Daboll told reporters after the game. “We’ll find out tomorrow, but I don’t foresee it being a long time.”

In addition to Lock, linebacker Dyontae Johnson also left the game with an ankle injury. However, Daboll revealed that Johnson’s injury was minor, and the linebacker was ready to return to the field but was held out as a precaution.

“He was going to come back. He was talking about it. I think he had an ankle,” Daboll said.

The Giants appear to have avoided major setbacks with both Lock and Johnson, but their participation in upcoming practices remains uncertain. The team will continue to monitor their progress as they prepare for the next preseason matchup.
