San Antonio Spurs Sign Underrated Free Agent

The San Antonio Spurs have had a busy offseason, headlined by drafting Stephon Castle, signing Chris Paul, and trading for Harrison Ingram. However, they have also made a handful of under-the-radar moves and added another lesser-known free agent in Brandon Boston Jr.

The 22-year-old, 6-7 wing was a standout high school prospect who was selected 51st overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2021 NBA Draft. He has played in 105 games for the Clippers over the last three seasons.

In his short career, Boston Jr. has averaged 6.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and has shot 31.3 percent from three. As the Clippers tried to compete for NBA titles, Boston was relegated to the end of the bench and the G League, limiting his development at the NBA level.

Boston Jr. has the tools to be a positive defender, and if he can get his shot back (shot 35.5 percent in college) then he will be a solid role player. He excels at getting to his spot off the dribble in the midrange and charging downhill, although he is not the best at absorbing contact.

Boston Jr. will likely have to prove himself in training camp if he is to be signed to a full-time deal. The Spurs don't have any two-way roster spots, so he will have to outplay Malachi Flynn and Riley Minix just to have a chance, and the Spurs already have a full roster, so he will really have to impress.
