Celtics fans, prepare for a potential shift: the Boston Celtics may be on the verge of ownership by John Henry's Fenway Sports Group (FSG), with the possibility of LeBron James being involved.

It appears that the Celtics are poised to be put on the market, and FSG, in partnership with RedBird Capital, is contemplating a serious offer, according to a report from the New York Post's Josh Kosman. This development may not be well-received by Boston sports fanatics, especially given the recent discontent with Henry's stewardship of the Red Sox.

For Celtics fans the participation of Lakers star LeBron James, an investor in FSG , may be particularly disconcerting due to his historic rivalry with the Celtics. The idea of him having an ownership stake in the team might be difficult to accept.

Nonetheless, it is crucial to recognize that Henry's interest in the Celtics does not ensure FSG's purchase of the team. The impending luxury tax bills could dissuade them.

Moreover, as James remains an active player in the NBA, league regulations prohibit his involvement with the Celtics until he retires. He is anticipated to retire after playing at least one season with the Lakers, where he will team up with his son, Bronny.

FSG is keen to expand its sports portfolio, which currently includes Liverpool FC and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Although there has been speculation about FSG introducing a new NBA team to Las Vegas, the acquisition of the esteemed Celtics franchise could present a more straightforward option.

For now, the Celtics can look forward to opening night of the 2024-25 NBA season, when the team will raise their 18th championship banner.
