Taron Johnson Poised for Big Year With Bills Following Productive Camp

In a 2024 training camp that was filled with multiple injuries to the safety position, the Buffalo Bills were in need of some consistency in the secondary. They received that from slot corner Taron Johnson.

Johnson's name is one that has been brought up almost every practice by the media after making multiple impact plays on the field. In the team's final practice before the preseason, Johnson had three pass breakups during team drills.

Johnson also had one of the biggest highlight plays in the team's annual Return of the Blue and Red scrimmage, jumping and snagging a bobbled Josh Allen pass for an interception. When asked about the play, Johnson was clear about his mentality on the field.

“There’s times where I got a recovered fumble based on someone punching the ball out, and just running to the ball," said Johnson. "So, I just try not to take that for granted, and make sure I’m running to the ball every chance, every play.”

After signing a three-year, $31 million extension with the Bills in the offseason, Johnson is expected to bring a consistent veteran presence to the slot corner position. In the team's first depth chart release of the 2024 season, Johnson was listed as one of the Bills' starting cornerbacks alongside Rasul Douglas and Christian Benford.

Johnson could see some snaps when the team opens up the preseason against the Chicago Bears on Saturday, but fans shouldn't expect to see him truly make an impact until the team faces the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 on Sept. 7.
