It's been 20 years since the United States medaled in the men's 4x100m relay, and 24 years since they won the gold medal.

That unfortunate streak is going to continue for another 4 years at the very least, as the team was disqualified from the final race on Friday after an inexcusable blunder left them way behind the pack. During the first exchange in the relay, Kenny Bednarek left early, and received the baton from Christian Coleman outside of the designated zone.

Canada won the gold medal in 37.50, South Africa got silver in 37.57, and Great Britain got bronze in 37.51.

The race was doomed from the first exchange, and after that, it was all that the Americans could do to get back into the thick of things. Of course, none of it mattered in the end with the DQ coming down in the end.

Now, going into 2028, the U.S. will have to try and figure out what went wrong and how to improve quickly, or they could be in for a 28-year streak between gold medals.
