Chiefs 'Recruiting' Cowboys' All-Pro Receiver CeeDee Lamb?

Marquise Brown. Xavier Worthy. CeeDee Lamb?

Since the Kansas City Chiefs are committed to their attempt at a third consecutive Super Bowl, they might as well go for broke. At least, that's what Brown seems to be insinuating in this week's low-key recruitment of the Dallas Cowboys' All-Pro receiver.

With Thursday's bizarre sequence of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones downplaying any urgency to get Lamb signed to a contract and then the receiver laughing (at Jones?) on social media, it has those around the league suddenly considering the possibilities. In the case of Brown, that could mean a trade from the Cowboys.

It's not exactly tampering, but ...

Brown, already joining rookie Worthy to significantly upgrade a Chiefs' pass offense, changed his Twitter header photo this week to one of him and Lamb from their college days. Lamb, in response, did the same. He also scrubbed "Cowboys" from all of his social media .

The two played together at Oklahoma. Could they pair up again in Kansas City?

The Cowboys are already dealing with the headaches of trying to sign stars Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons to contract extensions. Coming off a record-breaking season of 135 catches, 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns, Lamb is under contract but also not in training camp because he believes he be among the NFL's highest-paid receivers.

A trade would not be cheap, obviously.

It's difficult to imagine Jones surrendering Lamb. He drafted him in the first round in 2020 and it's turned out to be a shrewd pick. A deal would likely involve the Chiefs giving Dallas a first-round pick, a starter and another high pick.

For what it's worth, the Chiefs have approximately $15 million in salary cap space this year and are projected to have about $14 million in 2025.

Jones continues to maintain that he's "all in " on this year's Cowboys. But if the Chiefs manufacture a trade for Lamb and add him to Patrick Mahomes' weapons that already include Brown, Worthy and Travis Kelce, would a third Super Bowl already be won?
