The Tampa Bay Buccaneers best outside linebacker YaYa Diaby went down with an ankle injury earlier this month, and fans were worried when he was carted off the field. Luckily for the Bucs, the 2023 third-round pick from the University of Louisville avoided a serious injury and provided the media with an update Thursday morning.

"I'm taking it day by day," said Diaby. "I'll be ready week one."

Diaby hasn't practiced for the entire month of August, but he is moving well and is no longer wearing a walking boot. The 6-4, 270 pound outside linebacker is coming off a dominant rookie season where he recorded 7.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. The Buccaneers have to be really thankful that they dodged a bullet here, because Diaby is a centerpiece to their front seven.

Three of the Bucs first four games are at Raymond James Stadium, but their one road game in that stretch is a playoff rematch with the Detroit Lions, who have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. It will be imperative that Diaby is at full health for that one.

The Buccaneers square off in week one against the Washington Commanders Sep. 8 and it will be most likely be second-overall pick in this past NFL Draft quarterback Jayden Daniels as the signal caller for Washington. Look for Diaby to get after Daniels early, and then be on his way to another breakout season.
