Since the new age of NIL and the transfer portal, roster attrition and player movement have become a daily occurrence.  Whether it's for more playing time or better NIL deals, many players are enticed away from their original school and even multiple schools.

Long past are the days of players waiting their turn to start and grinding through a program, Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is an anomaly on that front.

Last fall, Simpson was involved in the starting quarterback competition with Jalen Milroe but ultimately settled in as the backup.

Simpson easily could've left during the winter or spring portal windows and found a new home where he could have more playing time, but Simpson is sticking it out in Tuscaloosa.

Former national title winning quarterback for Alabama Jake Coker went through a similar path and is fond of the dedication Simpson is showing.

"For Ty to stick it out Alabama...you don't see that often anymore," Coker said. "When does Jalen does leave, I hope he excels at Alabama and does really well."

Simpson anchors the quarterback room at the QB2 spot and is using the time behind Milroe to get a significant grasp of head coach Kalen DeBoer's new system.

With the potential of a longer season, Simpson could be called upon more often when the Crimson Tide has substantial leads in the fourth quarter which could further elevate his development.

Barring a rough season for Milroe, he will depart for the NFL following the season and Simpson will receive every opportunity to win the starting job for 2025.
