The Miami Marlins open a three-game home series with the San Diego Padres starting Friday night. Miami is coming off a four-game series loss to the Cincinnati Reds.

Before Friday's game, the Marlins made a bunch of moves to update their roster, including the removal of pitchers Kyle Tyler and Emmanuel who have struggled. They are also looking to play the spoiler role again to a Padres team that has been raging hot recently.

San Diego is on a five-game winning streak and coming off a series sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates. They currently hold the top wild-card spot in the National League by two and a half games. Right behind them are the Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets, with the Atlanta Braves hanging around in the hunt.

As for pitching matchups, the Padres will send southpaw pitcher Martín Pérez (2-5, 4.96 ERA) to the mound. Pérez was acquired by San Diego in a trade with the Pirates and has struggled this season. However, he had a quality start in his last outing against the Colorado Rockies on Aug. 4, which was also his Padres debut. He allowed a run on three hits and struck out seven batters, all without walking anybody.

Pérez will pitch against Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera, who has also struggled. He also was solid in his last outing against the Braves, which was a 7-0 win for Miami. He struck out eight batters and only allowed three hits in five scoreless innings.

Here are the lineups for both teams
