The St. Louis Cardinals are coming off a series win against the Tampa Bay Rays to begin the week, however, they lost the finale on Thursday 6-4 at Busch Stadium. The team will hit the road for a quick five game road trip beginning with two games against the Kansas City Royals.

Friday, August 9th: Miles Mikolas vs. Michael Lorenzen

The Cardinals will go with Miles Mikolas (8-9, 5.12 ERA) for the series start against the Royals. Mikolas will look for a bounce back in the outing on Friday as he is coming off his shortest start of the season the last time he was on the hill against the Chicago Cubs. Mikolas allowed four runs on eight hits across four innings of work. He recorded three strikeouts but also walked two batters. His most in the last seven starts.

He will go up against another veteran pitcher on Thursday as the Royals will start Michael Lorenzen (5-6, 3.69 ERA) on the mound. Lorenzen will be making his second start of the season for the Royals as he was acquired from the Texas Rangers at the MLB Trade Deadline. In his first outing with Kansas City the 32 year old grabbed a no decision after allowing only one run to score in 5.2 innings of work against the Detroit Tigers.
