Brandon Aiyuk Throws Cold Water on Latest Report About Where He Stands with 49ers

There’s a new wrinkle in the ongoing soap opera that is Brandon Aiyuk’s contract negotiation with the San Francisco 49ers.

Multiple reports on Friday evening — including those from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and NFL reporter Jordan Schultz — suggested that the 49ers were making a last-minute push to hash out a long-term deal with Aiyuk.

The news caught the attention of Aiyuk, who seemingly tried to debunk the reports, insinuating the team could be leaking false information to NFL insiders.

“Niners be in the media everyday lol, it’s two options out there pick one and stop dropping reports simple,” Aiyuk commented on an Instagram post referencing Pelissero's report.

Both Pelissero and Schultz made it seem like the 49ers had reversed course and were motivated to find common ground on a contract extension with Aiyuk after stalled trade talks with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“After months of speculation, sporadic negotiations and recent trade talks, the 49ers are pushing to get a deal done that keeps Brandon Aiyuk in San Francisco for the long haul,” Pelissero tweeted . “Nothing done, but finally, things are moving.”

Added Schultz : “49ers star WR Brandon Aiyuk recently had a sit-down meeting with Kyle Shanahan and others in the organization where ‘some open and candid thoughts were expressed.’ The two sides have since restarted negotiations on a long-term deal and there is some optimism that Aiyuk could remain in SF.”

While Aiyuk’s situation remains fluid, it at least seems more plausible that he ultimately stays in San Francisco for 2024 and beyond.
