"Everything Happens For A Reason' Cowboys' Trey Lance Discusses His Situation In Dallas

In two years in San Francisco, Lance started just eight games for the 49ers. He was supplanted as the starter by “Mr. Irrelevant” Brock Purdy in 2022.

Before last season, he was traded to Dallas but has yet to impress with the Cowboys. Lance is still the third-string quarterback behind Cooper Rush. While he hasn’t been able to climb the depth chart - an opportunity he'll be given on Sunday in the preseason opener at the Rams - he’s keeping a positive attitude.

“I truly believe everything happens for a reason,” Lance said. “Whether it’s my injury or being traded here, I think I’m here for a reason. I might not know what it is exactly right now, but I know all I can do is control my attitudes my effort every single day. And try to help the guys around me be better and try to help the team win. So that’s truly my mindset.”

Lance has the right attitude, he can only control what he can control, and that’s getting better every single day. When he was asked about improving, he pulled a page out of former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett’s playbook and called it a “process.”

“My thing is, if I don’t make the same mistakes twice, I am getting better,” Lance said. “So, for me it’s just continuing to learn and just trust in the journey and that process.”
