Fever Coach Christie Sides Turns Heads With Caitlin Clark Update

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are getting ready for their return to the WNBA court following the league's month-long midseason break for the Paris Olympics.

This break gave Clark her first extended hiatus from basketball since before her final collegiate season with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Just one week after she led her team to the NCAA National Championship game, she was selected by the Fever with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

While Clark would've loved to represent the United States at this year's Olympics, this extended break was much needed as she prepares to finish out Year 1 in the WNBA.

During media availability at practice earlier this week, head coach Christie Sides provided an encouraging update on her rookie sensation.

"It's just the rest," Sides said. "She was able to get her legs under her. She's hitting shots."

Clark was sensational through the first half of her rookie season, earning a spot on the WNBA All-Star Team and shattering all-time records along the way. In the Fever's final game before the midseason break, she set the all-time, single-game assist record with 19 dimes in a loss to the Dallas Wings.

Clark leads the WNBA with 8.2 assists per game. Her three-point shooting percentages haven't lived up to her elite standards, but she still leads all rookies in scoring with 17.1 points per game.

Clark and the Fever will return to action in a highly-anticipated matchup against the Phoenix Mercury on August 16.
