Details Emerge on Potential 'Explosive' Anthony Edwards-Heat Trade Scenario

As Anthony Edwards and Team USA men's basketball make a gold medal run in Paris, Dan Le Batard, a longtime Miami journalist and Heat insider, shared details of a potentially "explosive" future trade scenario involving the Minnesota Timberwolves star.

The speculation centers around a looming conclusion between current T-Wolves and Minnesota Lynx owner Glen Taylor and business partners Marc Lore and former MLB star Alex Rodriguez.

"I'm just going to set you up for something here that is speculative right now, but it is something to keep an eye on," Le Batard said on his show on August 8. "There's an arbitration coming up in which we're going to find out who gets that team. Is it going to be Glen Taylor or is it going to be A-Rod?"

Le Batard then laid out why Timberwolves president of basketball operations Tim Connelly could be the driving force behind where the 23-year-old All-Star is playing in the coming seasons.

"This is what you need to watch out for: If (current owner) Glen Taylor keeps the team, what's going to happen after that is they're going to lose their team president Tim Connelly," Le Batard continued.

"He is going to leave because he signed a long-term deal with the A-Rod team and I think it's contingent, I believe, on A-Rod being the owner. ... And if Tim Connelly leaves, the next step on that is Anthony Edwards possibly wanting to leave with him and requesting a trade to Miami."

According to the Star Tribune on July 26, the arbitration has been pushed back to early November 2024, months behind its anticipated start date. Per the Tribune, "The hearing should last a week, with the ruling from a three-member arbitration panel coming within 30 days."

Edwards enters the 2024 NBA season playing on the first year of a five-year, $244 million rookie contract extension he signed with Minnesota in July 2023. Per Spotrac, the contract carries a 15% trade bonus and a $42.1 million salary cap hit in 2024-25, rising to $55.6 million in 2028-29.
