The Philadelphia Eagles began their 2024 preseason campaign with an exhilarating 16-13 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Friday night. The win offered a promising glimpse of the Eagles' revamped offense under new coordinator Kellen Moore and a defensive unit brimming with veteran talent and exciting rookies.

The game came down to a thrilling finish. After Jake Elliott's 50-yard field goal attempt hit the right upright with just 21 seconds remaining, it seemed the Eagles might have squandered their chance for victory. However, Patrick Johnson's clutch strip-sack on the ensuing Ravens possession gave Philadelphia new life. Elliott redeemed himself with a walk-off 49-yard field goal, sealing the win and sending the Eagles faithful home happy.

Kenny Pickett, leading the second-string offense, demonstrated poise and efficiency, completing 14 of 22 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. Moore's offensive schemes were notably more dynamic and up-tempo compared to last season, featuring increased no-huddle plays and a variety of RPOs. If this performance is any indication, Eagles fans have much to look forward to when the first-team offense takes the field in the regular season.

The Eagles' defense, featuring many starters, put on a dominant display. Rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell was particularly impactful, nearly securing an interception and making several key plays. Nolan Smith Jr. showcased his pass-rushing prowess with a sack, while veterans Devin White and Jalen Carter made their presence felt in limited action.

Among the rookies, linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. stood out with his tackling ability and instincts, finishing with six tackles. Running back Will Shipley proved to be a versatile threat, contributing in both the rushing and passing game while also excelling on special teams. Wide receiver Johnny Wilson impressed with his blocking skills and made a case for the WR3 position.

This preseason opener offered a tantalizing preview of what's to come for the Eagles in 2024. With an invigorated offense, a mix of established defensive stars and promising rookies, and a flair for late-game dramatics, Philadelphia plays its next preseason game against the New England Patriots on Thursday, Aug. 15.
