Team USA has a simple message to send on sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson after her first career gold medal -- don't call it a comeback.

After the controversial decision to remove her from the Tokyo Olympic team after a failed drug test in 2021, Richardson made her Olympic debut in Paris and captured her first gold medal on Friday. The 24-year-old helped the United States take the women's 4x100 in a come-from-behind victory, finishing in a time of 41.78 seconds and beating Britain by .07 seconds.

After the win, Team USA took to social media to correct anyone looking at her performance at the Paris Olympics as a comeback.

"She's not back, she's better," the United States' Olympic team wrote in a post on X .

Richardson appeared overcome with emotion on the medal podium on Friday, wiping away tears as she stood beside her teammates with the gold medal draped around her neck.

Richardson said it felt more special to know that she won her first gold medal as part of a team.

"The moment that I would describe is realizing that when we won as USA ladies, it was a phenomenal feeling for all of us," Richardson said.
