It was far from a good day for Team USA during the 4x100-m relay race on Friday.

The four-man team of Christian Coleman, Kenneth Bednarek, Kyree King, and Fred Kerley finished seventh in the race after a lackluster performance from the group. To make matters worse, an inexcusable error during their first handoff resulted in Team USA getting disqualified from the race altogether.

Apart from the fact that the squad has failed to reach the podium in the 4x100-m relay for two decades now, one of the highlights of the race has to be NBC's commentators destroying the sprinters for their disappointing outing.

“It’s happened again to the United States,” Australian commentator Leigh Diffey shouted. “Can you believe it? As Canada celebrates, the U.S. go back to asking questions again.”

Diffey was joined on the broadcast by four-time Olympic medal winner Ato Bolden of Trinidad & Tobago, who also had some choice words for the American team.

"This is not a repeat," Bolden said. "This is exactly what happened at the [2022 World Athletics Championships]. United States, sloppy passes. Canada says ‘thank you very much.’”

Diffey and Bolden went on to discuss what went wrong for the U.S., who were competing without star sprinter Noah Lyles after he was forced to pull out of the Olympics due to COVID-19.

Bolden eventually came to the conclusion that Bednarek, who was a last-minute replacement for Courtney Lindsey, took off way too early, thereby leading to Coleman struggling to pass him the baton. There was no catching up for Team USA from that point.

The Americans will now need to wait another four years before they get a chance to break their curse in the men's 4x100m relay.
