With the opening of the new season just a few days away, the competition for the starting quarterback job on the Denver Broncos continues to be a tight one between veteran Jarrett Stidham and rookie Bo Nix.

According to a report from ESPN's Jeff Legwold , Broncos coach Sean Payton already released the team's first "unofficial" depth chart. Nix, the 12th overall pick in this year's NFL Draft, was placed last at the quarterback position.

When asked about it during a recent press conference, Nix was indifferent.

"I couldn't care less," Nix told reporters.

In the same report, Payton reiterated that their quarterback situation is fluid.

"They're (rookies) all at the end of the line and obviously, that will change," the one-time Super Bowl champion coach said.

The Broncos were high on the 24-year-old Nix after a stellar stint at Oregon. He's the team's highest-drafted quarterback since taking Jay Cutler with the 11th overall pick in 2006.

The 28-year-old Stidham, meanwhile, threw for 496 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in four games last season—his first with the Broncos.

The Broncos will battle the Indianapolis Colts in their first preseason assignment on Sunday.
