Steelers: 49ers Asking Price For Brandon Aiyuk Revealed

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been rumored to be in major discussions with the San Francisco 49ers all offseason for star receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

The 49ers suddenly aren’t in a big hurry to trade off one of their best players, so the asking price is steep. According to NBC Sports’ Matt Maiocco, the 49ers are asking for a veteran receiver and a second and third-round draft pick.

"Aiyuk has led the 49ers in receptions and receiving yards both of the past two seasons,” Maiocco writes. The 49ers have been inclined to trade Aiyuk only if they get a veteran receiver in return.

“That’s why they are driving a hard bargain with the Steelers while never ruling out the possibility that Aiyuk could remain with the 49ers."

“Veteran receiver” likely refers to budding superstar George Pickens. The Steelers have absolutely no intentions of trading the third-year wideout anywhere, so that would be a no-go from the beginning.

The asking price is high for a reason. The 49ers don’t necessarily want to trade their leading receiver away when they feel they can get back to the Super Bowl this season.

Recent reports indicated that the two sides have re-engaged in contract negotiations for the first time since the spring. At this point, unless a team overpays to get him, it would appear that Aiyuk is staying in the Bay Area.
