Jordan Chiles Has Unfiltered Response to Being the Target of Social Media Bullying

Celebrating her bronze-medal win in the floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Olympics with her coaches and teammates is a memory Jordan Chiles won’t soon forget.

Unfortunately, so are some of the things that were said to Chiles via social media, given her bronze-medal moment was mired in controversy after a last-second score change leapfrogged her ahead of two Romanian gymnasts and onto the podium.

Chiles’ coach, Cecile Landi, came to her defense on Instagram, pushing back against claims Chiles cheated her way to a medal — a gesture the 23-year-old appreciated with all of the social media hate that’s come her way since the event.

“Having her by my side, sticking up for me, I think it’s really cool because you never know with what social media…social media just sucks in general,” Chiles told Access Hollywood . “I don’t like it, everybody [is] a bully bot. There’s no point in having social media in my eyes but I appreciate what she did, and I can’t thank her enough because with times like that, it does get hard mentally, physically, emotionally for a lot of people.”

After Chiles completed her floor routine, she was given a score of 13.666 and looked to have finished in fifth place.

However, Landi noticed one of the elements of her routine — a tour jete full — wasn’t given the proper degree of difficulty, so she filed an inquiry to make sure Chiles got credit for the skill.

The judges agreed, bumping Chiles’ score to 13.766 past Romania’s Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea and stirring up a hornet’s nest.

“Jordan won this bronze medal and didn’t steal anything from anyone; I simply did my job and fought for my athlete,” Landi commented in response to the cheating allegations. “…You don’t have to like it but you do have to respect the outcome and more importantly respect Jordan and not drag her down because you disagree. She EARNED that bronze medal.”
