Eagles Rookie Class Shines in Preseason Opener

A low-scoring 16-13 victory to open up the 2024 preseason slate won't matter much when the Philadelphia Eagles kick off the regular season in a month.

There were still some important takeaways from Friday's victory over the Baltimore Ravens, though.

While Philadelphia's red zone defense and situational offense were just good enough to pull out a win, the more impressive part of the team's success came from the 2024 rookie class.

Almost every single youngster on the roster succeeded in putting a solid step forward. Wide receiver Johnny Wilson had just one catch but got open consistently. Jalyx Hunt showed a relentless motor en route to a four-tackle day, and Trevor Keegan looked ahead of the curve at left guard.

There were major standouts though behind those three.

First-round rookie Quinyon Mitchell had a pass breakup and looked very solid in single coverage. Will Shipley not only scored a touchdown but looked shifty in the open field.

The big winner just happened to be a player the organization is all too familiar with.

Jeremiah Trotter Jr., the fifth-round selection taken by the Birds and son of the team's top linebacker from the 2000s was easily the best-looking rookie of the entire class on Friday.

Trotter recorded a sack, multiple strong special teams plays, and led the team in tackles. He may be considered undersized, but he looked the part of a really solid player.

Not every rookie looked solid Friday, especially the likes of Ainias Smith, but the Eagles for the most part have to be thrilled with how the rookies performed early in game action.
