The Boston Red Sox (61-53) still await the return of one of their most prolific hitters. With just 48 games remaining in the season, the extra help could boost them into the playoffs.

    Day-to-Day/Paternity/COVID List

    RHP Nick Pivetta

Nick Pivetta (5-7, 4.44 ERA) will be skipping his next start due to arm fatigue. The Red Sox are hopeful that the extra rest will be enough for Pivetta to return to form and be ready for his next start.

    RHP Cooper Criswell

Cooper Criswell (4-4, 4.02 ERA; COVID) was meant to fill in for Pivetta, but he has come down with COVID. Criswell has been placed on the COVID list, and Brad Keller (0-2, 5.13 ERA) has filled his spot on the roster.

Originally Pivetta's start, and then Criswell's, Saturday's game will now be started by Josh Winckowski (2-1, 3.44 ERA).

    RHP Brayan Bello

Brayan Bello (10-5, 5.16 ERA) was placed on the paternity list on Friday. While his spot on the roster is being filled by Cam Booser (2-2, 3.15 ERA), Bello is expected to be activated in time for his next start.

    10/15-Day Injured List

    RHP Justin Slaten

Justin Slaten (5-2, 3.38 ERA; right elbow inflammation) has thrown out to 105 feet in long toss. He is expected to begin mound work soon. He has been on the injured list since July 12th and is expected to return within the next two weeks.

    OF Tyler O'Neill

Tyler O'Neill (leg infection, illness) missed four games with an undisclosed illness before being placed on the 10-day injured list with an infection in his left leg. The club expects O'Neill to return once he is eligible to be activated on August 14th.

    60-Day Injured List

    RHP Liam Hendriks

Liam Hendriks (right UCL surgery) is scheduled to throw his second live batting practice on Saturday at Fenway Park. He threw his first live batting practice on August 6th, facing live batters for the first time since his surgery, throwing 15 pitches and mixing in fastballs and sliders.

Hendriks will throw three to four live batting practices in total before going on his rehab assignment. He is expected to make his season debut in September.

    1B Triston Casas

Manager Alex Cora said that it is up to Triston Casas (torn cartilage in left rib cage) on when he will be activated. Casas began his rehab assignment on July 31st and must be activated no later than August 20th. Friday's game was rained out for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox and Casas is expected to only play in one game of Saturday's doubleheader.

    SS Trevor Story

Trevor Story (dislocated left shoulder) is scheduled to take batting practice on the field at Fenway Park on August 12th. This is a huge step for Story in his recovery, and returning this season seems more realistic now than it did. If Story does return this season, it will be in September.
