Report: Free agent CB Stephon Gilmore to visit Vikings on Monday

The Minnesota Vikings have been shuffling cornerbacks throughout training camp but they may have reinforcements in the form of Stephon Gilmore.

According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson , Gilmore is planning to fly out to Minnesota on Sunday and is planning to meet with the Vikings on Sunday. A five-time Pro Bowler, two-time All-Pro and 2019 AP Defensive Player of the Year, Gilmore is the top cornerback remaining on the free agent market and should have several suitors.

For the Vikings, making a push for Gilmore makes sense. Mekhi Blackmon tore his ACL during the first practice of training camp and Shaquil Griffin has been out with a hamstring injury since the first week of training camp.

Outside of Byron Murphy Jr., who is expected to start in the slot, the Vikings have had a battle royal at the outside cornerback position that has involved Akayleb Evans, free-agent pickup Fabian Moreau and UDFA Dwight McGlothern.

Gilmore would be an instant upgrade for the Vikings' defense and with $18.6 million in cap space, the Vikings have the financial means to make it happen. Its uncertain whether a visit will result in the deal but it’s progress to solve one of the Vikings’ biggest concerns heading into the 2024 season.
