As the Buffalo Bills head into halftime during their preseason opener against the Chicago Bears with a 6-3 lead, several players have stepped up to make their mark, both offensively and defensively.

Backup quarterback Mitchell Trubisky , filling in after Josh Allen’s brief appearance, has been productive, completing 9 of 17 passes and leading the team in rushing with 12 yards on three carries. Allen, who played only a series, also contributed with a 7-yard scramble, showcasing his mobility early on.

The Bills’ ground game, however, has struggled to gain momentum. Running back James Cook has managed just 2 yards on 4 carries, while rookie Ray Davis has added only 1 yard on 3 attempts. In the passing game, wide receiver Khalil Shakir leads the team with 3 receptions for 28 yards, followed by Curtis Samuel, who has hauled in 2 catches for 23 yards. Rookie wide receivers Tyrell Shavers and Keon Coleman each made their first NFL receptions, adding to the depth of the receiving corps.

Defensively, second-year linebacker Dorian Williams has been a standout, recording 5 solo tackles and 1 sack, demonstrating his potential as a key defensive contributor this season. Cornerback Rasul Douglas has chipped in with 3 solo tackles, while safety Damar Hamlin and rookie safety Kendall Williamson have each recorded 2 tackles, contributing to a solid defensive effort.

Despite these efforts, the Bills’ offense has struggled to find the end zone, with kicker Tyler Bass accounting for the team’s only points, hitting a field goal to put Buffalo on the board. As the second half approaches, the Bills will look to capitalize on their opportunities and tighten up their play to finish strong against the Bears.
