Phillies Alec Bohm Ranks Among Games Best Third Basemen

The Philadelphia Phillies (69-47) have received contributions from the top of their lineup to the bottom. One man has consistently filled the middle of their lineup this season and has had a breakout performance while doing so. That man is Alec Bohm .

In a recent article from Bleacher Report , Joel Reuter ranked the top 10 players at each position right now. Bohm finds himself on the podium, ranked third.

Bohm, 28, is in the middle of a career year. Entering Saturday, Bohm has batted .298/.352/.483 with 12 home runs, 78 RBI, and a 132 OPS+. He leads MLB in doubles with 42 and is currently on pace for 58 doubles. 2024 also marks the first season that Bohm received an All-Star nod.

For his career entering 2024, Bohm batted .276/.325/.406 with 44 home runs, 239 RBI, and a 101 OPS+. He finished second in National League Rookie of the Year voting in 2020, with a line of .338/.400/.481 with four home runs, 23 RBI, and a 137 OPS+.

While Bohm has the reputation of a bad defender at the hot corner, he has drastically improved his defensive ability this season. He entered 2024 with a combined -12 Outs Above Average at third base from 2020-2023 but has accrued two Outs Above Average at the position this season.

Alec Bohm, still only in his fifth Major League season, has yet to bring home any post-season awards. At the rate he is playing this season, however, that may change at season's end. He may be making room for a giant silver bat on his mantle.
