The top cornerback in the state of Georgia is staying home.

Douglas High School (Atlanta) product Jontae Gilbert committed to the Bulldogs on Saturday, bringing UGA's total to 23 pledges in the class of 2025.

Gilbert (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) is a four-star recruit, rated as the No. 19 CB, the No. 19 player in the state and the No. 138 recruit in his class, per 247Sports.

Gilbert, who holds 38 scholarship offers, has had a busy spring and summer visiting Georgia (June 7), Tennessee (June 14), Georgia Tech (June 14) and Duke (June 14) among others. The Bulldogs ultimately kept one of the best players in the state home, something head coach Kirby Smart and his staff do well.

Georgia has had a large amount of success in recruiting and developing secondary talent under Smart, a former UGA defensive back himself. Three defensive backs were drafted in April and Georgia landed the top corner and safety in the No. 1 class of 2024.

Gilbert is the second corner committed to UGA's No. 3-ranked class, including South Carolina flip Shamari Earls.

There is still plenty of work to do in the 2025 cycle with some elite talent still considering their collegiate options. Georgia is in the mix for some of the top uncommitted players like defensive tackle Justus Terry and offensive tackle David Sanders Jr.
