The Kansas City Chiefs are set to open the 2024 preseason, and thus begin defense of their Super Bowl championship.

The Chiefs will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at 7 p.m. ET from EverBank Stadium. While the majority of players on the Chiefs’ 90-man offseason roster will be available to play, not all members of the roster are expected to see the field for preseason game 1.

Earlier this week, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid revealed that his starters, including star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, are likely to play through the entirety of the first quarter.

In fact, only one player on Kansas City’s roster has been ruled out for this matchup, left guard Joe Thuney. THe veteran lineman suffered a pectoral injury during the playoffs last season. While he was activated from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on July 28, the Chiefs will wisely take a careful approach with their Pro Bowl guard.

“Joe (Thuney) will not (play)," Reid told reporters on Wednesday. Thuney has yet to participate in training camp practice outside of individual drills and position work.

For the Jaguars, the following players have been “unavailable” for Saturday night’s matchup:

    S Darnell Savage

    RB Keilan Robinson

    CB Tyson Campbell

    S Andrew Wingard

    OL Steven Jones

    OL Ezra Cleveland

    OL Anton Harrison

    DT Jordan Jefferson
