The Cardinals are looking for the series sweep against the Kansas City Royals in a quick two game series at Kauffman Stadium. After a close win on Friday night, the Cardinals can leave Kansas City closer to a playoff spot in the National League.

The teams first baseman got things started early on Saturday.

Paul Goldschmidt sent one deep with a two run home run against former Cardinals pitcher Michael Wacha in the top of the second inning. the veteran sent one 430 feet to centerfield. He brought in Nolan Arenado in doing so after the third baseman starting the inning with a single.

The homer marks the 18th of the season for Paul Goldschmidt and he needed it. It hasn't been the best season for the former NL MVP, but manager Oli Marmol hasn't given up on him.

He is now hitting .200/.294/.367 with one homer and four RBIs to begin the month of August. The Cardinals entered today 1.5 games outside of the wildcard race. If they are looking to get back into contention they will need the production from players like Goldschmidt to continue to improve.

Hopefully, this means that he is heating up.

Pitcher Andre Pallante is on the mound for the Cardinals taking on Michael Wacha. The team will finish the game with Kansas City on Saturday and have a rare off day Sunday before finishing the road trip with a three game series against the Cincinnati Reds.

The game is available on Bally Sports Midwest and Bally Sports Kansas City.
