The Dallas Cowboys are out west to open their preseason schedule against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday afternoon. One guy who is sure to get plenty of playing time is backup quarterback Trey Lance.

The former No. 3 overall pick of the 2021 Draft by the San Francisco 49ers is locked in a battle with seventh-year quarterback Cooper Rush to back up Dak Prescott.

Lance is excited to get on the field Sunday afternoon.

"It's just playing ball," Lance said. "Not really thinking too much about it. I've had a lot of reps with these guys, so I'm excited to go out and run the offense well.”

Lance is currently third on the Cowboys depth chart and needs to show major improvement throughout the preseason for the Cowboys to even think of moving him ahead of Rush, who has performed well for the Cowboys in the past.

The pressure is there for Lance to perform well, but he’s not letting that change the way he prepares.

"I'm going into this game the same as I've gone into every other game my whole entire life — college, high school,” Lance sai d. “I don't think that I'll put too much extra in it. I'm not gonna play any harder than I have in the past, or not harder ... Big game for me. Big game for us, so I'm excited to go out there and play well."

A lot of times players in his position will press and make mistakes if they aren’t cool under pressure. At this point, Lance has had a disappointing start to his career. Can it finally click for him this year? Those questions and more could be answered in the preseason.

The Cowboys kick off against the Rams on Sunday afternoon 3:35 p.m CST.
