Steph Curry Reinforces Team USA's 'Unsung MVP' Take

Who is the MVP of Team USA? Some might say it's LeBron James, who was actually crowned as the tournament MVP. Others might point to Steph Curry, who powered the Americans through the semifinals and finals to clinch the championship. Others might point to someone like Kevin Durant or Anthony Davis.

However, Curry and head coach Steve Kerr agree on who the "unsung MVP" of Team USA is. That honor belongs to Devin Booker. Kerr gushed about the Phoenix Suns star in the post-game interview.

"Devin Booker is an incredible basketball player," Kerr said , per Ben Golliver. "Nobody asked about him. He was our unsung MVP. I just wanted to say that."

Curry agreed with that sentiment, posting a story on Instagram of Kerr's quote while saying, "Damn straight."

Booker has quietly been the most consistent player for Team USA in the 2024 Olympics. Playing a role he hasn't done since his college days, the Suns star found success as an off-ball threat and on-ball defender. He averaged 11.7 points per game in the Olympics on solid efficiency, feeding on a steady diet of spot-up threes and fastbreak layups.

NBA fans are well aware that Booker is more than just a three-and-D guy. However, when you have guys like Curry, LeBron, and KD, you need players who can support them without getting in their way. Booker did exactly that, and it helped Team USA to get their fifth straight Olympic gold medal.

As for Curry, the Golden State Warriors star showed out in the gold medal game. With France continually banging on Team USA's door, the former MVP silenced the crowd with four straight threes. In usual Curry fashion, each three-pointer was more improbable than the last.
