Way-Too-Early Mock Draft: Giants Pick SEC Quarterback

The New York Giants have made the requisite moves to expect improvement from quarterback Daniel Jones in 2024.

With a receiver that is seemingly always open and upgrades to the offensive line , the stage is set for Jones’ prove-it year. There isn’t a clear bar set – playoffs, winning record, top-16 play, etc – but New York will either be moved by its veteran passer or it will move on.

Who could they target at quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft?

In Pro Football Network’s latest mock draft , the Giants picked No. 6 overall. That took them out of contention for Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, the summer’s QB1. Instead, they opted to make Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman the new face of the franchise.

“Conner Weigman flashed in 2023 before suffering a season-ending injury four weeks into the season,” Will Helms wrote. “The Texas A&M quarterback has above-average arm strength to layer the football and has the vision and accuracy to hit receivers on time in any area of the field. With an entire healthy season, Weigman has the creativity, pocket presence, and anticipation to challenge to be QB1.”

Health has been Weigman’s biggest flaw, both a red flag and an endorsement of his physical talents. But with physical tools that check the box and a playmaker’s dosage of athleticism, there’s more than enough in his profile to inspire optimism.

Staying healthy would provide scouts with a larger sample size to evaluate his work, as well as a long enough runway for his own development. If he can improve under pressure and clean up his process within structure, it’s only a matter of time before a team falls in love with his arm talent and proclivity for winning out of structure.

Weigman hasn’t seen the hype of other high-profile passers just yet, but that shouldn’t take him out of the running to be the Giants’ next franchise quarterback.
