The decision to leave Caitlin Clark off the Team USA roster got some fresh attention at the close of the Paris Olympics.

The Indiana Fever rookie was not named to the U.S. women's basketball team roster, a decision that sparked some controversy as Clark had already set a series of WNBA records through the first half of the year.

As Team USA struggled against France in Sunday's gold medal game -- going into halftime without a lead for the first time in the Olympics since the 2012 semifinal before pulling off a tight 67-66 victory -- many took to social media to question the decision to leave Clark off the roster.

Clark's name was a trending topic on X, where some questioned why she and fellow rookie Angel Reese were watching at home rather than playing in the game.

Some noted that Clark has been playing better than some of the veteran players added to the Team USA roster.

"Chelsea Gray and Diana Taurasi over Caitlin Clark is a joke. And you can’t convince me that this team couldn’t have used Angel Reese’s rebounding," one fan posted .

"I'm not trying to start any arguments honestly...but Caitlin Clark is so much better than Gray, Plum, and Taurasi it isn't even funny," another wrote .

After trailing by as many as 10 points early in the third quarter, Team USA pulled back and took a two-point lead going into the fourth quarter. They pulled off the victory, holding off a spirited French squad.
