'I Have A Platform!' Butker Reveals A Plan

"I do have a platform,'' says Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, who apparently also has a plan.

The Kansas City standout went viral this spring for his controversial remarks at a commencement speech at Benedictine College in Missouri.

"I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you," Butker said in his presentation. "Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother."

The comments became the centerpiece of a national debate.

Butker got support from the Chiefs and took abuse from other quarters. But he is not backing down from his views.

However, he is working to separate his views from his football.

"I've been in the league now seven years and I do have a platform," Butker said, per ESPN's Adam Teicher . "So with that comes people that want me to state what I believe to be very important. ...

"I'm going to stand behind what it is I'm saying. I kind of look at the offseason as a little bit of a maybe five-month period where I can just represent me as Harrison Butker as a faithful Catholic. And then obviously when it gets to the season, I try to focus as much as I can on football and not being a distraction for the Chiefs."

The Chiefs experienced a tumultuous offseason in many ways, but remain a favorite to win a third straight Super Bowl - with Butker as a key piece on the roster.
