The Atlanta Braves are looking for a win today.
After two wild games to open the series, with one going each direction, the Braves are looking to win the series against the Colorado Rockies this afternoon from Coors Field. The extreme offensive environment in Colorado will serve as a great test for Atlanta's star rookie Spencer Schwellenbach (4-5, 4.04), as the two teams have combined for 30 runs on 45 hits in the first eighteen innings of the matchup. Schwellenbach's set to be opposed by veteran lefty Kyle Freeland (3-4, 5.65), who is looking for any sort of success against an Atlanta team that's wrecked him in his career.
Lineups for the Atlanta Braves and Colorado Rockies on Sunday, August 11th
Here is how the Braves are lining up for the finale:
RF Jorge Soler
3B Austin Riley
DH Marcell Ozuna
1B Matt Olson
C Travis d'Arnaud
SS Orlando Arcia
LF Adam Duvall
2B Whit Merrifield
CF Eli White
A little bit of lineup change for Atlanta here - with Ramón Laureano leaving last night's game early (heel), Eli White checks in for the series finale, batting 9th and playing centerfield. Adam Duvall, who hits lefties much better than righties, checks in for Jarred Kelenic and bats 7th.
Schwellenbach's going to be asked to slow down a Colorado offense that's ran wild in the first two games of the series. Colorado has fourteen runs on twenty-two hits across the first two games, but Schwellenbach's shown adept at keeping runners off the basepaths - in his last five starts combined, covering thirty-three innings, Schwellenbach's allowed less than one baserunner an inning with just twenty-five hits and one walk across that stretch.
Here is the lineup and defensive configuration for Colorado in the finale:
RF Charlie Blackmon
SS Ezequiel Tovar
3B Ryan McMahon
DH Brendan Roger
1B Michael Toglia
CF Jake Cave
C Jacob Stallings
LF Sam Hilliard
2B Aaron Schunk
Kyle Freeland's hoping for success against Atlanta that's been fleeting in his career. Across his last five starts versus the Braves, he's 1-3 with a 7.07 ERA. In both starts last season, he allowed a combined fourteen runs (thirteen earned) in just ten innings, with the same number of walks as strikeouts, four. Five current Braves have homered off of the lefty, including Jorge Soler (.455 career average against), Austin Riley (.333 avg), Matt Olson (.214 avg), Orlando Arcia (.200), and Marcell Ozuna (.182).
