United States center and long-time basketball prodigy Brittney Griner was noticeably emotional while receiving her Paris Olympic gold medal and listening to the USA national anthem after defeating France 67-66 in a defensive slugfest.

This is Griner's third Olympic gold medal and may just mean a little bit more than the rest after everything she has endured over the last four years leading up to this moment.

She finished the gold medal match with four points and two rebounds. A'ja Wilson led the way with 21 points and 13 rebounds, which were both game highs.

There's no telling if this will be Griner's last Olympics, but she is 33 years old, and four years from now, the jury remains out. For the Phoenix Mercury this season, she is averaging 18.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game.

The United States have now won eight straight gold medals and have been one of the most dominant teams and dynasties in Olympic history.
