Steelers Place Fehoko on IR; Announce Two New Signings
By Austin Givan,

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced a series of roster moves following their preseason-opening loss to the Houston Texans , including the decision to place veteran defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko on the Injured Reserve.
This means that the former undrafted free agent, who sustained a shoulder injury during practice, will be sidelined for the remainder of the season. This move has prompted the Steelers to make strategic adjustments to their roster as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Fehoko, who spent last season on the Steelers’ practice squad and was signed to the active roster during Cam Heyward's injury, had been expected to provide depth on the defensive line.
With Fehoko now on IR, the Steelers may explore the possibility of an injury settlement. Still, considering his previous contributions, there’s also a chance they will retain him for the season.
In response to Fehoko's injury, the Steelers have signed defensive tackle Marquiss Spencer, who worked out with the team earlier in the summer. Spencer will now have an opportunity to step in and prove his value, particularly as a potential practice squad candidate.
With Fehoko out, the team relied on rookie Logan Lee as their third nose tackle during the preseason opener, but Spencer’s addition provides additional depth and experience at the position.
The Steelers also waived linebacker Easton Gibbs just days after signing him as an undrafted free agent following the waived/injured release of linebacker Tyler Murray .
To fill the gap left by Gibbs, the Steelers signed linebacker Luquay Washington, an undrafted free agent out of Central Connecticut State.
At 6-foot, 232 pounds, Washington will compete for a special teams role, especially with Cole Holcomb still sidelined. The Steelers typically keep five linebackers during the regular season, and Washington will be looking to secure his spot on the roster.
As the Steelers continue their preseason preparations, these roster moves are indicative of the adjustments necessary to maintain depth and competitiveness. The additions of Spencer and Washington provide the team with options as they navigate injuries and evaluate talent leading into the 2024 regular season.
