WPIAL Forward Earns Fifth Division One Offer
On Monday, another WPIAL prospect earned a division one offer. Montour forward Ama Tening Sow earned an offer from UT Martin, he announced on Twitter. The 6-foot-9 center plays for All-Ohio on the Nike circuit during the summer and Montour High School during the school season. The Senegal native originally moved to the U.S. to play for First Love, a former prep school in Washington, PA. After the program left the area, he then transferred to Montour to play WPIAL ball.

AHN Young Scholars introduces local high schoolers to careers in medicine
A pilot program at Allegheny Health Network called AHN Young Scholars aims to get more young people, particularly minorities, to become doctors. New Kensington-Arnold to consider extending superintendent's contract
The New Kensington-Arnold School Board will vote Tuesday on extending the employment of Superintendent Chris Sefcheck. Sefcheck’s original five-year contract started July 1, 2021, and runs until June 30, 2026. The new five-year deal would start Tuesday and end on June 30, 2029 — effectively extending his employment by three years.
Duquesne renames law library for Ken Gormley at major donor's request
The law library at Duquesne University is being renamed for the university president and former dean of its law school, Ken Gormley. Campus officials on Monday said the name change was requested by renowned trial attorney and Duquesne law school alumnus Thomas R. Kline, who in September 2022 made a $50 million gift to what is now Duquesne’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law.
Sewickley area student achievements for the week of July 2, 2024
Dana Kromah, 16, was named a Pittsburgh Riverhounds Change Maker last month. The initiative recognizes people under age 18 who hae made a difference in their community. Kromah has logged countless hours volunteering his time at the Sewickley Community Center and as a member of the Quaker Valley Black Student Union. A varsity basketball player at Quaker Valley High School, he also serves as a coach for younger players with Quaker Valley Youth Basketball’s winter and summer programs, and in that role has gone above and beyond as a mentor to the next generation, both on and off the court. Kromah was recognized on the field at the Riverhounds game on June 19.

Lindsay Downs, a librarian at Sewickley Academy, was named the 2024 Alan C. Miller Educator of the Year in the News Literacy Project’s Change-Maker awards. Downs knows that the ability to identify credible information benefits students inside and outside the classroom. With some of them eligible to vote for the first time this year, the stakes are high. “I think that my responsibility as an educator to prepare voters is to really help them critically think about information. It’s not so much what to think, but how to think,” she said.
