New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers exited Sunday's training camp practice due to an injury to his left ankle and the team's top pick in the recent NFL Draft did not return.

Nabers is believed to have suffered a minor ankle sprain, though the Giants did not immediately provide an official update on Nabers' status.

Nabers, according to on-site reports, appeared to sustain the injury during a team drill near the end of practice.

Nabers has so far been impressive in his first-ever training camp and is expected to be the Giants' No. 1 receiver this season.

Nabers took the field for the first time in an NFL game during the Giants' preseason matchup against the Detroit Lions . Though the rookie wide receiver showed flashes of the potential that made him a high draft choice, his first game left him without a single catch, despite finding open space on multiple occasions.

“It felt good to be back on the football field, playing a real game,” Nabers said. “I did a very good job of getting open, but everything has to go my way to get the ball. It was kind of slippery out there. I think I could’ve done a better job of creating separation, getting better looks for the QB to throw the ball in better spots.

"That’s all I can do — continue to do what I do.”
